Most business owners know that systemising their business is a good idea.
In fact, if you do a task without writing it down, you’re going to be destined to repeat it forever.
So why do most business owners never get around to systemising their business?
There are two main reasons:
1) They are too busy and caught up in the day to day;
2) They feel it’s too hard and they are not sure where to start
So let’s look at three things you can do today to start systemising your business:
1) Start Small
It’s that old saying, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! The way to systemise your whole business is to create one system at a time.
So what is the simplest, easiest system that you can start with? What system can you create that will get you on the journey of systemising your business? A good place to start is things you are doing regularly.
Or where there are common mistakes happening in your business.
Start with something simple so you get moving right away.
2) Record Systems as You Go
The easiest way document a system is to record it as you go.
Next time you are doing something, use screen capture software to record the screen as you are working on it. There are many different types of software you can use to record what you are doing. For example, Zoom, Loom or Camtasia. Even use the camera on your phone. Another simple way is to create a quick little checklist as you are doing the task.
Video is one of the fastest and easiest ways to record a system as you are going, and you can always get it transcribed and turned into other forms of systems.
And by recording your system as you do it, it’s not going to take up too much extra time.
3) Get Your Team Members to Help You Systemise Your Business
You can get more of your systems documented if you get your team members to help you.
I remember doing this with a client who wanted to systemise his business in 6 months. The rate he was going it was going to take him a full year. So I asked him. Who else can help you with this? He thought about and identified one manager who would be great at doing this as well. That way they could now create two systems a a week and he would achieve his goal sooner.
It is that simple. So think about who else in your business can help you document systems? That way, your business will be systemised a lot faster.
So just to recap. There are three keys to systemising your business quickly:
- Start small. In fact, getting started is probably the hardest part so get started today!.
- Record systems as you go. By recording and systemising tasks as you do them there will be less impact on your time.
- Use other people’s time. Who else in your business can help you systemise your business?
By following these steps you can systemise your business quickly and you’re one step closer to having freedom in your business.
